How We Work Together

The first, very important step in the process is to make sure we are a good fit for each other. To learn more about that please read my Who I Work With page.

Once we decide to move ahead, there are a number of core principles that serve as a foundation for the work we do together.

Conversation

I don’t give you a lengthy questionnaire to complete, nor ask you to dig up what your cable bill was last month. We start by sitting across from each other with a blank sheet of paper. And we have  a conversation - not an interrogation.

We’ll map out what’s important to you, where you are and where you want to go. I’ll probably ask you questions that no other financial advisor has asked you, such as “Do you want to save less?” or “Do you want to invest more conservatively?” We’ll explore your values, goals, and priorities, and work from there.

I don’t bring any assumptions or biases to the table.  You can share anything with me.

Meaningful-Conversations

English

I’m what’s known as a straight-talker. No BS served here. I’m not going to tell you what I think you want to hear.

I’ll be very open with you, use plain english instead of industry jargon, and give you my honest opinion at every stage. If I don’t know the answer to a question, I’ll tell you that too and then go to work to find what you need. I keep in touch with a range of specialists we can call upon to ensure you get the very best solution to your personal needs.

I don’t sell products and I don’t accept commissions – I am absolutely transparent in my dealings and my only loyalty is to you.

Teamwork

In addition to the specialists I can call upon as needed, I’m more than happy to meet with your other advisors (accountant, lawyer, insurance agent, etc.) to ensure every aspect of your financial life is coordinated and on track.

Relationship

I don't sell a product – a financial plan isn’t something to do once and then forget for one, two or five years. This is a truly personalized service and I’m your ongoing financial partner. There will be regular reviews and updates, and when the market changes, the economy changes, or your circumstances change, I’ll be there to make sure your plan is up to date and reflects your current goals and priorities.

Balance

Balance

Some planners would have you so scared of the future that you’re afraid to spend any money. They’ll also encourage you to take on as much investment risk as you can bear, regardless of whether it’s actually necessary.

I take a very practical approach to financial planning – one that strikes a balance between being well prepared for tomorrow and having the lifestyle you desire today. I also believe you only need to take as much risk as will allow you to confidently reach your most important objectives.
